The Playstation 4 event has ended but all the full details are below!

UPDATE: Sony has released a full Press Release on the PS4, which talks about system capabilities and provides a full list of game developers and publishers. See below for the new hardware detail (click to enlarge photo):

UPDATE #2: According to EuroGamer, Sony Worldwide Studios head, Shuhei Yoshida has officially stated that PS4 will not block any used games. In fact the speculated anti-used game patent that was reported to be filed via Sony was never intended for the PS4.

The Breakdown:

Console Specs:

  • Supercharged PC Architecture
  • 8GB unified RAM – GDDR5
  • Enhanced PC GPU (can process up to 2 teraflops of data)
  • x86 CPU (8 cores)
  • Local HDD
  • (No photo available; console was not shown at PS4 event)
  • New Dual Shock 4 controller:
    • Same basic control setup–analog sticks, D-pad and shoulder buttons still there, though rubber grips are a bit more prominent on the analog sticks.
    • Includes a One touch share button; utilizes huge push towards connectivity–use the button to instantly broadcast/share real time gaming sessions & posts to services like Facebook/Ustream
    • Gaikai Technology integration; increased Remote Play capabilities between PS4 & PSVita.
    • Touch Pad
    • Light bar: New sensor that works in conjunction with new PS4 camera to track depth and position; Also for player identification
  • New Playstation camera/sensor

    •  3rd Party Software Developers for PS4 announced.



  • No native backwards compatibility
    • Gaikai/Sony working on cloud gaming system to eventually be able to play PS1, PS2, PS3 games;
      • No date specified on the completion or availability of this project
    • Playstation App: Enables 2nd screen connectivity. The app (for iOS & Android) will allow users to turn their phones and tablets to become second screens when playing games. The second screen can display items like maps, inventory lists, etc.
