So of course everyone knows (or should) know about the Harlem Shake by now. And I’m sure it’ll be dead in about another week since, like most things Internet based, it will be run into the ground.
Despite everything, I jumped in the meme/viral trend early and joined my fellow idiots in Time Square for a Harlem Shake video of our own. The shoot was organized primarily on Facebook within a couple of days. About 300+ people showed up as we prepared to film. Captained (literally) by Michael Solace and led by Edward Sturm, we were directed to stand at the bottom of the red steps by the TKTS booth. We were SO ready–until Times Square Public Safety Officers told us to take a hike. The group moved to an open pedestrian area and luckily got in two takes. Unfortunately NYPD didn’t take too kindly to the festivities, saying the mob was “blocking pedestrians” (not true..). We were then, again, told to take a hike.
Nevertheless the filmmakers finished the video the next day and posted an awesome cut featuring the good ole boys in blue. See if you can spot the Grand Duchess….
